ABOUT MY CLASSES
I am a practitioner of yoga in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar. My classes are informed by what I have learned and continue to learn from my teachers in this lineage as well as from my own practice over the last 20 plus years. I also have a strong interest in therapeutic effects of yoga, which also influences how I approach my classes. I strive to spark curiosity and joy of investigating one’s own body, breath and mind. In all classes, I try to provide a supportive and safe environment for all students to practice and explore the subject.
Iyengar Yoga is known for its systematic cultivation of alignment and focus. It is clear and concise in instructions, dynamic in sequencing, and inventive in adapting to students’ age, ability and needs by modifying poses. Over the years of practice in this method, I have developed flexibility, strength and stamina. I am much more grounded and resilient mentally and emotionally. More importantly I have a much better sense of who I am. I assure you that yoga will gift you with these benefits and more if you keep at it. Yoga is for everyone, regardless of physical ability, age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, social and cultural belief or background. Join me NOW! |
ABOUT ME - Sachiko Nishizawa Willis
As a teenager in Japan, I became fascinated with yoga through a book my mother brought home one day. It would, however, take nearly 20 years and a foreign land for me to finally begin the practice of yoga. In 2001, I attended my first Iyengar Yoga class in New York City, and was immediately hooked! Over the years, the practice has not only given me tools to work with my congenital hip issues and chronic back problems, but also has transformed me as an individual. Yoga continues to inspire me, challenge me, guide me, uplift me and ground me - on the mat and in life.
I am a Certified Yoga Therapist (c-IAYT), Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 level instructor and a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. I am a graduate of a 3-year Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program, ultimately achieving an Intermediate Jr. I Certificate. I also graduated from a 3-year Iyengar Yoga Therapeutic Teacher Training program, which was the only therapeutic program directly approved by B.K.S. Iyengar. I am a long-time student and assistant of Manouso Manos, from whom I learned and continue to learn so much about what it is to be a yoga practitioner and a human being. I have been teaching since 2010 and currently offer general classes and workshops as well as specialized classes/workshops including back care, shoulder & neck care, and restoratives online and in-person. |
